Security Engineer

Location: London, UK

Salary:  Competitive

Security at FINBOURNE covers a wide variety of challenges and work – ranging from technical solutions, to helping nurture an informed security vigilant culture, and evaluating vulnerabilities and developing effective controls.

We’re looking to hire a security engineer into our growing Security team who is excited about hands-on working with the latest cloud technologies, protecting a platform and company relied upon by top tier finance companies, and who has a passion for modern security done well.

We firmly believe every security team needs to be constantly evolving and automating rapidly to keep up with the changing threat landscape. From integrating industry standard tools, to building world class inhouse functionality, as a company that prizes engineering excellence we look to apply great tech wherever we can to give our team the space to focus on the next emerging threat.

Have a look at our website, read about our values and make sure they align with the kind of company you want to work for. Our ambition is to benefit by helping build your experience, by surrounding you with helpful industry experts, giving you opportunities to own and solve problems, as well as supporting you through relevant security certifications. When working with the latest technologies there’s never a ready-to-go expert in everything, and we understand that, and that’s why we look for brilliant people who are capable technologists that we can teach our technology and approach.

Key responsibilities:

  • Working with our engineering teams to provide guidance on secure development practices and contribute as security oversight to our products’ design and development.
  • Automating monitoring and implementing pro-active response tools to help us better filter noise from signal and respond confidently and effectively where necessary.
  • Help devise and introduce new ways to further secure our software development lifecycle – the backbone of our company is our passion for automated testing.
  • Design and implement creative solutions for emerging and difficult security challenges facing a hyper-growth scale-up in the Financial Technology space.
  • Work as part of the team in sharing the responsibility for understanding how our systems work and ensuring that they are documented to help our collective understanding as we grow.
  • We take ownership for the software we build and run which means we all do our part to ensure the systems are always working and alerts are high quality and investigated promptly.
  • Contribute as a subject matter expert in incident response scenarios, both real and simulated.
  • Share your experience with those around you to help better the team and be eager to learn as much as you can from the variety of different areas of experience we have across the company.
  • Contribute to the company culture, championing our values and bringing in innovative ideas and suggestions to our rapidly growing business.

What skills, experience, and qualifications we require:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Detail-oriented, delivery-focused, and able to manage multiple work streams simultaneously
  • Experienced in working with AWS and ideally other cloud vendors too
  • A solid understanding of Kubernetes, Docker, and containerisation
  • A good understanding of key Linux concepts (and operating systems in general)
  • Ideally some development experience – preferably C#/Java/C++/Golang but we understand good coding skills are transferrable.
  • Familiarity with modern software development processes
  • A strong belief in the automated testing of systems in part and aggregate
  • Confident in using Git
  • Able to use SQL effectively to query data
  • Strong understanding of networking fundamentals.

The security experience we’re hoping for:

  • Understanding and experience with secure software development practices
  • A qualification in a Kubernetes security
  • A qualification relating to cloud security and secure architectures
  • Experience being involved in incident management
